Long before the invention of the printing press, the earliest form of “books” were scrolls; long stretches of papyrus (an early form of paper made from the papyrus plant, then later fabric, parchment, vellum and paper) containing writing in columns Stories, ideas and worlds contained in 2D portable form, for the first time.
The ‘Scrolls’ series is a contemporary take on this ancient format. long abstract paintings on canvas, presented as a scroll. These rollable paintings also bring together places, times and stories, but through the use of soils from around the world. Clays, limestones, iron oxides and other earth minerals that are poured, layered and guided onto these long stretches of canvas. An ode our earth, and slithers of its past and future. Each ready to travel the world and be unrolled.
